Patterns

Patterns

The game setups Tessellate downloads, what each one does, and how well it's tested.

A pattern is a small text file that tells Tessellate how to find one game, start a copy per player and tile the windows. The app checks this list when it starts (Settings > Patterns > Check for new patterns) and offers new and updated ones; every download is checked against the fingerprint in the list before it's saved. Nothing here contains or downloads game files. Patterns were previously called handlers.

  • Risk of Rain 2

    Works

    Split-screen 1-4 players Version 0.2

Played 2-player on a real PC. Three and four players not tried yet.

    How it plays

Connect every controller before pressing Play: the game doesn't pick up pads plugged in later. Runs through the Goldberg Steam emulator: each copy is its own Steam user (named after the profile) on this PC only, with its own Steam Cloud saves in the profile's save folder. Tick the DLC you own on this page (Goldberg can't check). Crossplay is switched off for these copies only. Player 1: Multiplayer, then "Copy lobby to clipboard"; everyone else picks "Join clipboard lobby" (the clipboard is shared). Windows Firewall asks about each player's copy the first time; the copies only talk on this PC.

  • Terraria

    Works

    Split-screen 1-4 players Version 1.1

Played 2-player on a real PC: tiling, controllers, settings put back afterwards.

    How it plays

Player 1 hosts: Multiplayer > Host & Play. Everyone else opens straight into multiplayer character select and joins 127.0.0.1 after picking a character (if the host isn't up yet, Join via IP is pre-filled). Vanilla Terraria has no save-folder flag, so all players share Documents/My Games/Terraria: pick a different character each. If controllers act up, turn off Steam Input for Terraria (Steam > Terraria > Properties > Controller).

  • Deep Rock Galactic

    Experimental

    Split-screen 1-4 players Version 0.1

Written from a Nucleus Co-op community setup; not played in Tessellate yet.

    How it plays

Not tested in Tessellate yet. Runs through the Goldberg Steam emulator: each copy is its own Steam user (named after the profile) on this PC only. Start the game once normally first so FSD/Saved/SaveGames exists. Player 1 starts a mission or the Space Rig and turns off "friends only"; Tessellate waits for that lobby and starts everyone else straight into it. Saves stay in the game folder, one file per player (they have different Steam IDs).

  • tModLoader

    Experimental

    Split-screen 1-4 players Version 1.0

Found and set up like Terraria, with saves per player; a full session not tried yet.

    How it plays

Launched through tModLoader's own start script, which installs the right .NET runtime on first run. Each player gets their own save folder (characters, worlds, mod settings) via -tmlsavedirectory. Host a world in one instance and join 127.0.0.1 from the others.

For the curious

The app reads tessellate.games/feed/index.json: one line per pattern with its version and SHA-256 fingerprint, and each file sits next to it in /feed/handlers/. Patterns you install stay on your PC, so Tessellate keeps working offline, and your own pattern files always win over these.

See every game that plays, including the ones built into the app, on Games. Want a pattern for a game? Tell us at hello@tessellate.games.
